About The Parish Church of St Paul, Adlington
The Parish Church of St Paul, Adlington is an Anglican place of worship on Railway Road, near Chorley in Lancashire. The church continues to serve its parish within Blackburn Diocese and has Grade II protection for its architectural and historic significance. It is also connected with the Society and has Saints Wilfrid and Hilda as its patrons.
T. D. Barry and Sons drew up the design, and construction took place in 1883–84 at a reported cost of £8,000. The Gothic Revival building uses pale yellow stone contrasted with red masonry, beneath Welsh slate and red-tiled ridging. Its tower, erected after the First World War in remembrance of the dead, incorporates the main doorway, clocks and a crenellated summit. A proposed spire was never completed. Interior details include clustered supports along the nave, scissor-pattern roof bracing and Morris & Co. glass dating to 1895 and 1897. The eight John Taylor bells were made between 1932 and 1934.
