St George’s Church stands on Saint George’s Street in Chorley, Lancashire. It remains an active Church of England parish church within the Diocese of Blackburn and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Designed by Thomas Rickman, construction began in 1822 and was completed in 1825 with financial support from the Church Building Commission. Initially serving as a chapel connected with St Laurence’s, the church gained its own parish in 1856. Built of dressed stone beneath a slate roof, it follows the Early English Gothic style, with aisles, a clerestoried nave and chancel, and a four-stage western tower crowned by pinnacles. Inside are galleries supported by iron columns, a marble font showing an angel holding a scallop-shaped basin, and a carved octagonal pulpit by Chorley craftsman Thomas Rawcliffe. Memorial glass includes an 1875 east window, while the western window by Stephen Adam portrays the Resurrection. The organ dates from about 1870, and the Ellacombe chime was installed in 1919.
