Preston England Temple is a functioning place of worship for Latter-day Saint congregations, situated on Preston Road in Chorley, Lancashire, about 10 miles south of Preston. It was the faith’s second temple to open in Britain and the sixth established in Europe. Its area of service extends across the Midlands, northern England, Scotland, the Isle of Man and specified church districts in Ireland.
The proposal was made public in October 1992, followed by a ceremony marking the start of building work in June 1994. The completed temple was dedicated over several services between 7 and 10 June 1998. Modern classical in character, the single-level structure is clad in pale granite quarried in Sardinia and has a zinc-covered roof. One spire rises above the building, crowned by an angel Moroni figure. The interior provides four rooms for ordinances, another four for sealings, a baptistry and a celestial room, with local scenes depicted in murals.
