About St Michael and All Angels Church, Marden

St Michael and All Angels Church stands in Marden, Kent, as a Church of England parish church. Dating from the beginning of the 13th century, it is protected as a Grade I listed building.

Construction began around 1200, with additions and alterations made between the 13th and 16th centuries. Restorations followed in 1868 and 1909. Sandstone, ragstone and puddingstone were used in the fabric, beneath tiled and lead-covered roofs. The nave is flanked by aisles, while chapels adjoin the chancel. Its tower has three masonry levels and a later weatherboarded belfry topped by a pyramidal roof. Inside are medieval pointed arcades, crown-post roofs and an octagonal font dated 1662. Patrick Reyntiens created the stained glass placed in the chancel windows in 1962. Memorials commemorate Edward Cole, who died in 1757, and George Maplesden, who died in 1688.
