About Church of the Holy Trinity
The Church of the Holy Trinity is an active Church of England parish church in Dartford, Kent. Standing on the High Street beside the River Darent, it is protected as a Grade I listed building. Its worship follows a liberal Anglo-Catholic tradition, with choral services held each week.
The oldest surviving work dates to around 1080, when Gundulf, Bishop of Rochester, built on the location of an earlier Saxon church. The building was recorded in the Domesday Book and expanded during the thirteenth century with a chapel for pilgrims dedicated to Thomas Becket. Its Norman tower was heightened in the fourteenth century and now houses eight bells. A late fifteenth-century wall painting of Saint George and the dragon remains visible. Robert Mylne altered the church in 1792 when the High Street was widened, while Arthur Blomfield led restoration during the 1860s and 1870s, followed by further work from W. D. Caröe in 1910. Brass and stone memorials commemorate several notable figures.
