About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is a Church of England place of worship at Tudeley in Capel, Kent. It belongs to the Diocese of Rochester and is protected as a Grade I listed building. Its stained glass is especially notable, with every window designed by the Belarusian-French artist Marc Chagall.
Christian worship at Tudeley can be traced to the seventh century, while possible pre-Conquest sandstone foundations survive beneath the nave and tower. Most of the present fabric originated during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Extensive work from the late eighteenth century introduced red brick laid in Flemish bond, a blue slate roof and a tower dating from 1765, while preserving parts of the earlier stonework. Robert Medley Fulford reconstructed the nave and added a Bath stone north aisle between 1871 and 1875. Three bells hang in the tower, and the chancel contains a restored monument to George Fane. Chagall’s first memorial window was installed in 1967, with the remaining eleven completed by 1985.
