About Glenelg Church
Glenelg Church is an active Church of Scotland place of worship in the Kyle area of Highland. Protected with Category B listed status, it belongs to the South West Ross parish and the Clèir Eilean Ì presbytery. The present parish brings together several former parishes, including Glenelg, Kintail and Lochalsh. Services are held weekly, and the building is also used by a local Free Church congregation.
Dating from the eighteenth century, the church has a simple rectangular form with harled walls and a slate-covered roof. Its western gable has rendered detailing that imitates dressed stone, together with an eighteenth-century open bellcote, while a stone cross stands at the eastern end. Three south-facing windows retain nineteenth-century glass. Repairs took place from 1821 to 1830, followed by interior alterations in 1863 and 1929. The churchyard contains a grave slab from around the turn of the eighteenth century, alongside later memorials.
