About St Lawrence Catholic Church
St Lawrence Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic place of worship on Castle Street in Dingwall, Highland. The church belongs to the Diocese of Aberdeen and continues to represent the Catholic presence in the town.
It welcomed worshippers for the first time on 29 July 1902. Duncan Chisholm of Pitglassie was its largest financial supporter. The building is distinguished by accomplished coloured glass and finely worked timber carvings. Dom Ninian Sloane, a monk connected with Pluscarden Abbey, designed windows showing Saints Jude, Lawrence and Anthony. Ornate wooden frames around the shrines were crafted by Brother Auer from Fort Augustus Abbey. A family connection was later established when Auer’s brother ministered at the church as parish priest during the 1930s.
