St John the Baptist is a Church of England parish church on Melbourn Street in Royston, Hertfordshire. It remains an active place of worship, with a Sunday service at 9:00 AM, and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
The nave and aisles date from about 1250 and were once the choir and sanctuary of the substantial church attached to Royston’s Augustinian priory. After the monasteries were dissolved, the building became the local parish church. A serious fire on 9 December 2018 caused extensive damage, and the intense heat cracked all eight tower bells, including three cast in 1739. John Taylor & Co recast the bells in 2020. They were rehung in the surviving bell frame installed in 1901.
