About Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity stands on Merepond Lane in Privett, Hampshire, within the Church of England parish of Froxfield and Privett. Completed in 1878, it is now redundant and cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. The church is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
William Nicholson, owner of the nearby Basing Park estate, funded its construction between 1876 and 1878 on the site of a medieval chapel recorded in 1391. Arthur Blomfield designed the large Gothic Revival building in flint, with details in Bath stone. Its 160-foot tower and broach spire form a prominent local landmark, while eight bells cast by Mears & Stainbank in 1877 remain in place. Inside are a four-bay aisled nave, clerestory, carved font, stone pulpit and wrought-iron lectern. The richly furnished chancel includes a mosaic pavement, sedilia and an arcaded reredos.
