About Church of the Holy Trinity
The Church of the Holy Trinity is an active Anglican parish church at Trinity Green in Gosport, Hampshire. Part of the Diocese of Portsmouth, it has an Anglo-Catholic character and is protected at Grade II*. It also acts as Gosport deanery’s civic church, providing a setting for remembrance occasions and the mayoral carol service each year.
The building was consecrated in 1696, having been created to serve Gosport’s growing population and relieve St Mary’s at Alverstoke. Its interior combines white surfaces and a curved ceiling with classical Ionic arcades supported by oak pillars. Arthur Blomfield extensively transformed the exterior in 1887, adding red-brick facing, redesigned windows and a small bell turret. He added the prominent north-west tower two years later. The organ was acquired from the first Duke of Chandos in 1747 and is thought to have been played by Handel.
