About St Joseph's

St Joseph’s is an active Roman Catholic parish church on Queens Road in Aldershot, Hampshire. Standing high above the town centre, it occupies a ridge between Princes Hall and the Municipal Gardens. The church opened in 1913 and is protected as a Grade II listed building.

Catholic worship in Aldershot began in a rented chapel in 1869, with the present site acquired two years later. An iron church opened there in 1883, before fundraising for a permanent building began in 1902. George Drysdale designed the present red-brick and tiled church to fit its triangular plot, with stone used for the flooring and entrances. Its interior narrows towards a raised sanctuary and curved eastern end, where black marble columns have carved white capitals. Robert Senior, a local artist, painted the nave frescoes, which include biblical scenes of the Resurrection and the Wedding at Cana.
