St. Andrew’s Garrison Church is an army church on Queen’s Avenue in Aldershot, Hampshire. Associated with the Church of Scotland tradition, it follows its customary order of worship and uses its hymn book, while welcoming both military personnel and civilians. The Grade II listed church holds its Sunday service at 11:00 am.
The church was completed as a permanent First World War memorial and opened by Princess Mary in December 1927. Sir Robert Lorimer designed the large building, whose mainly brown-brick exterior has contrasting red brick around openings and corners. Its eastward-facing cruciform plan ends in an eight-sided apse. After the church became too small for military ceremonies, John F. Matthew designed a 30-foot extension to the nave and lowered the bell tower. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth attended its rededication in February 1939. A statue of Saint Andrew by J. G. Bubb now stands near the porch.
