About Christ Church

Christ Church is an active Church of England parish church in Y Bala, Gwynedd. It belongs to the Diocese of St Asaph and sits within the Archdeaconry of Wrexham. Its ecclesiastical administration also includes the Penllyn and Edeyrnion deanery. The building received Grade II listed status on 13 December 2001.

A church was first established on this site in 1811. The current building dates from a substantial replacement undertaken between 1853 and 1857. Among its notable furnishings are the choir stalls and prayer desks, created to designs by Chester architect John Douglas. After the structure fell into poor condition during the early 2000s, an extensive programme of repair and restoration took place from March to November 2007. The work cost £600,000.
