About St Bueno's Church
St Bueno's Church is a redundant Church of England church near Penmorfa, Gwynedd, around two miles north-west of Porthmadog. The Grade II* listed building has been cared for by the Friends of Friendless Churches since 1999.
The site is associated with a cell established by Saint Beuno in the late sixth century. The nave dates from the 14th century, while the chancel was built in the 15th. An early 18th-century south porch and a later vestry supplement the rubble-stone structure, which has a slate roof and a bellcote above the western gable. Three Victorian restorations culminated in work by architect John Douglas in 1889. Inside are a Jacobean-style chancel screen, an oak pulpit from 1887, earlier woodwork reused from a 1680 box pew, and stained glass spanning the 16th and 19th centuries. The church also contains several memorials and an 1870 hatchment.
