About St Tysilio's Church, Menai Bridge

St Tysilio’s Church, Menai Bridge is a medieval place of worship on Church Island, beside Menai Bridge in Gwynedd, Wales. Dedicated to Saint Tysilio, the church has held Grade II* protection since 14 February 1967. The surrounding burial ground includes several First World War graves and the resting place of Sir Albert Evans-Jones, a Welsh poet and dramatist who used the bardic name Cynan.

The island, known in Welsh as Ynys Suliau and Ynys Tysilio, is traditionally associated with a sanctuary founded by Saint Tysilio. The surviving church was built in 1401, placing it at the beginning of the fifteenth century. Its medieval fabric was later altered through renovation during the nineteenth century.
