About St Baglan's Church, Llanfaglan

St Baglan’s Church stands in an isolated field at Llanfaglan in Gwynedd. Now redundant, it is maintained by a conservation charity and has Grade I listed status. Its large churchyard and an early inscribed stone incorporated into the building indicate that Christian worship took place on the site before the present structure was erected.

The church probably dates from the 13th century and is built of stone beneath slate roofs. Its nave and chancel share one roof, with a south transept, north porch and bellcote at the western end. The chancel was reconstructed around 1800, when the porch was added, but the building avoided Victorian remodelling. It therefore preserves box pews, benches and other 18th-century furnishings. Further features include a medieval seven-sided font, a 14th-century east window, slate memorials and a bell made in 1790. A stone bearing a 6th-century inscription forms the lintel above the entrance.
