About St Figael's Church
St Figael’s Church stands in Llanfachraeth, Gwynedd, and belongs to the Church of England. No longer used for regular services, it is safeguarded as a building listed at Grade II and is maintained by the Friends of Friendless Churches. Its largely unaltered early nineteenth-century interior is a notable aspect of its heritage.
Christian worship was recorded on the site by 1254, though remnants of the medieval structure may survive only within the walling and foundations. The existing church probably began in the eighteenth century before extensive rebuilding took place in 1841. It is a modest rubble-stone structure with a rectangular footprint, an entrance near the western end of the south wall, and no distinct chancel. A rendered, gable-topped bell housing rises above the west end. Inside are nineteenth-century benches, enclosed pews and a northern pulpit. The three fonts include a twelfth-century example brought from St Ynghenedl, a later medieval octagonal font and an uncommon font housed in a cupboard.
