About St Gwenfaen's Church
St Gwenfaen’s Church is a Church of England place of worship at Four Mile Bridge in Gwynedd, Wales. It is protected at Grade II, a designation granted on 4 May 1971. Its heritage importance reflects the restrained Gothic character of this small country church, which suits its setting and is complemented by an elaborately appointed interior.
Its origins are associated with a foundation in AD 630 and a dedication to Saint Gwenfaen. An older structure was superseded by the present Gothic Revival church in 1875. Four years afterwards, the building was extended with a new chancel. Sir George Gilbert Scott is considered the likely architect. Inside is a copper monument made during the twentieth century for the Revd John Hopkins, formerly the rector, who died in 1901. The memorial features decoration influenced by Art Nouveau.
