About St. Rhwydru's Church
St. Rhwydru's Church is a medieval Church of England church at Cemlyn, near Cemaes Bay on the Isle of Anglesey. Standing in a secluded setting close to the village of Cemlyn, it is protected as a Grade II* listed building. This designation was granted on 12 May 1970 in recognition of its particular architectural and historic significance.
Although directory records give a building date of 1101, the surviving structure is understood to originate in the middle of the 12th century. Its earliest documented appearance was in a church taxation record compiled in 1254. The nave and a round-headed entrance are the oldest surviving elements, both dating from the 12th century. The church was subsequently renovated during the 19th century.
