About St Padarn's Church

St Padarn’s Church is a parish church in Bethesda, Gwynedd, associated with the Church of England. It has Grade II* protection, reflecting its recognised historic and architectural importance.

Arthur Baker prepared the design, and Captain N. P. Stewart marked the start of construction on 3 January 1884. The Assheton Smith family financed the project through its connection with the slate workings at Dinorwig. Built with stone sourced locally, the exterior includes contrasting red masonry from Runcorn. The church was formally dedicated on 24 June 1885, and its medieval font came from the older St Peris church. Harold Hughes carried out further work in 1914, finishing the nave and creating a Lady Chapel along the northern side. A J. W. Walker & Sons pipe organ was installed in 1921; it has seven stops, two keyboards and a pedalboard.
