About St Mary's
St Mary’s is a Church of England church on Rating Row in Beaumaris, Gwynedd. Dating from the 14th century, it is recognised as a Grade I listed building.
Founded around 1330 to serve the newly established town, the church began as a chapel connected with Llandegfan. Its Decorated Gothic nave survives from that period, with arcades arranged in four bays, while the chancel was reconstructed in the Perpendicular style around 1500. The four-stage western tower has a battlemented top and was altered during the early 19th century. Inside are 16th-century choir stalls, medieval misericords, the coffin of Joan, daughter of King John and wife of Llywelyn ab Iorwerth, and the alabaster tomb of William Bulkeley and his wife. The tower houses eight bells, six dating from 1819 and two added in 1914.
