About St Tudwall
St Tudwall is an active Roman Catholic parish church on King Edward's Street in Barmouth, Gwynedd. It forms part of the Dolgellau deanery within the Diocese of Wrexham and is protected as a Grade II listed building. The parish also includes St David in Seion Church at Harlech.
Catholic services began in Barmouth in 1890, initially taking place in rooms within local homes. A modest church on Park Road opened the following year. As the congregation grew, Father C. B. Wilcock oversaw the provision of a larger building. Its foundation stone was laid on 15 August 1904, the Feast of the Assumption, and the church was finished in 1905. Francis Mostyn, the first Bishop of Menevia, formally opened it. In 1939, an anniversary Mass commemorated Father Wilcock, with singing provided by a visiting choir from De La Salle College.
