About Star Hall
Star Hall was a mission building in Ancoats, Manchester, established to provide for the spiritual welfare of workers employed by Francis Crossley. It later passed to the Salvation Army, together with the mission associated with the premises.
Francis Crossley, whose engineering business eventually became Crossley Motors, founded the hall, which began operating in 1889. Following his death eight years later, his daughter maintained its work until 1919. That year, responsibility for both the property and its activities transferred to the Salvation Army. The site also housed Crossley Hospital, which provided maternity care. The hospital started receiving patients during the 1920s and ceased operating in the 1940s.
