About Holy Trinity Church, Bolton
Holy Trinity Church, Bolton stands on Trinity Street in Bolton, Greater Manchester. Formerly an Anglican parish church, it became redundant in 1993. The Grade II listed building was restored and converted into apartments in 2014.
Designed by Philip Hardwick, the church was constructed between 1823 and 1825 with financial support from the Church Building Commission. Its Gothic Revival design draws on the Perpendicular tradition, with ashlar walls and slate roofing. The plan includes a nave of seven bays, a modest chancel, an eastern vestry and a four-stage western tower. Buttresses, pinnacles and a battlemented parapet enrich the exterior, while the tower contains clock faces and bell openings. Inside are vaulted ceilings, galleries and paintings showing the Nativity and Ascension. An organ made by John Nicholson for Manchester Cathedral in 1860 was transferred here in 1874 and later rebuilt and overhauled.
