About Jubilee International Church
Jubilee International Church was a Pentecostal congregation based in Grove Park, south-east London, and belonged to the Assemblies of God. It moved to Grove Park from the Clapham area in August 2005, purchasing a church building that had previously housed the Christian Fellowship.
The building was completed in May 1935 after Frederick E Pinkess, who organised a travelling Sunday school locally, raised funds with support from the Baptist-affiliated Shaftesbury Society. Initially known as Grove Park Mission, it was independent of any denomination and provided assistance to people in poverty. Its community work during the 1930s and 1940s included a well-attended Sunday school and outdoor services with hymns played on an organ carried through nearby streets. The congregation later developed links with the Free Church tradition in 1947. After the 2005 sale, planning disputes were followed by a racist arson attack in 2006 and further incidents over the next two years.
