About Holy Trinity Church of Marylebone
Holy Trinity Church of Marylebone is a former Anglican place of worship in London, Greater London. Standing in Westminster on an island between Marylebone Road, Albany Street, Osnaburgh Street and Osnaburgh Terrace, it is protected at Grade I.
Completed in 1828 to plans by John Soane, the church was among those financed through funds approved by Parliament in 1818 to commemorate Napoleon’s defeat. Its entrance is set to one side and framed by four substantial Ionic columns, while a lantern-like steeple resembles that of St Pancras New Church. An outdoor pulpit facing Marylebone Road commemorates William Cadman, rector from 1859 until 1891. Burials in the vault took place between 1829 and 1853. After worship declined, Penguin Books used the building as a warehouse from 1936, followed by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge from 1937 to 2006. It later accommodated retail and events uses.
