About City of Faith Church
City of Faith Church is a multicultural Christian congregation in Lewisham, south London, and belongs to a network with branches in the UK and overseas. Between 1996 and 2015, it was affiliated with Assemblies of God in Great Britain. The church has supported local people through food distribution, financial guidance, debt counselling, and classes covering health, wellbeing and family life.
From 2006 until 2015, the church worshipped in a Mayeswood Road building dating from 1935, before moving to other premises. Originally known as Grove Park Mission, the non-denominational chapel was funded through Frederick E Pinkess and the Baptist-affiliated Shaftesbury Society. It served poorer residents and developed children’s outreach and a Sunday school. The congregation later became connected with the Free Church tradition, and from 1961 was known as The Christian Fellowship under Gordon Thomson. City of Faith Church’s arrival followed its move from south-west London.
