About Saint Anne's Church
Saint Anne’s Church is an active Church of England parish church at 31 Kew Green, beside the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. Dating from 1714, it occupies a prominent position on the green and is protected as a Grade II* listed building. Sunday worship includes said and sung Eucharist services, with Choral Evensong held monthly.
Founded on royal manorial land given by Queen Anne, the neoclassical church began as a chapel serving the Kingston parish. It was enlarged in 1770 with support from George III, and later additions included a south aisle and royal gallery in 1805. Further work during the 19th and 20th centuries added a mausoleum, dome and eastern extension. Inside are royal and noble funerary hatchments, memorials and a 19th-century pipe organ. The raised burial ground contains the Grade II* listed tombs of painters Thomas Gainsborough and Johan Zoffany.
