St Luke’s Church is an active Church of England parish church at 14 Baxter Road in Ilford, Greater London. Dedicated to Saint Luke, it also hosts Sunday worship for a Mar Thoma congregation whose members have Malayali roots in Kerala, southern India.
The church began in 1909 as a temporary mission within St Clement’s parish. Its permanent home, consecrated in 1915, was designed by E. T. Dunn in a Neo-Gothic interpretation of Perpendicular architecture, using stone and red brick. The building has a nave with aisles and transepts, although the intended chancel was not completed. After serious Blitz damage in 1940, services returned to the former mission building until reconstruction finished in 1954. Changes made in 1983 reversed the orientation of worship and created a chapel, meeting rooms, kitchen and toilets at the eastern end. Redecoration followed in 1998.
