About St Stephen's Parish Church
St Stephen’s Parish Church is an Anglican place of worship on Park Avenue, Bush Hill Park, in Enfield. It has served its own parish since 1909, following its beginnings as a local chapel linked to All Saints, Edmonton.
The congregation first met in a prefabricated iron structure erected in 1901. Work on John Samuel Alder’s Gothic permanent building started five years later. The eastern sections, vestries and part of the nave opened after consecration in 1907, while construction concluded in 1916. Several types of stone were selected, including Stamford for the walls, Bath for columns and window surrounds, and York for steps. Inside are stone arches, decorative window tracery, a curved timber roof and stained glass dating from the twentieth century. Only the base of the proposed tower was constructed, and its spire was abandoned. Norman and Beard supplied the three-keyboard organ in 1908; although recognised for its heritage value, it is presently unusable and requires repair.
