About St Michael's Church
St Michael’s Church stands in Trelawnyd, Flintshire, and formerly served as an Anglican parish church within the Diocese of St Asaph. Now recognised by Cadw at Grade II* level, it has important architectural and historic interest.
A place of worship was documented here by 1291, although the surviving church dates chiefly from 1724. John Douglas’s Chester practice undertook extensive restoration between 1895 and 1897, renewing the windows and adding new furnishings, while its successor practice built the north vestry in 1917. Limestone walls with sandstone details support a slate roof, enclosing a single-space nave and chancel with a southern porch and a western bellcote containing one bell. Notable features include a medieval font bowl, stained glass from 1897, a fourteenth-century burial slab and an organ installed in 1920. The churchyard contains a medieval preaching cross, an eighteenth-century sundial and several separately listed structures.
