About St Mary's
St Mary’s is an active Anglican parish church in Mold, Flintshire. It is recognised as a Grade I listed building. The church has longstanding connections with the Stanley family, reflected in heraldic emblems that include the Eagle and Child and the Three Legs of Man.
Work on the present church began around 1490, replacing earlier buildings on the site, and continued into the mid-16th century. Built mainly from local Cefn sandstone, it is largely Perpendicular in character, with a clerestoried nave, aisles, an apsidal chancel and richly carved masonry. Joseph Turner designed the replacement west tower, constructed between 1768 and 1773. Sir George Gilbert Scott directed extensive alterations in the 1850s, including the present chancel, new seating and a nave roof. Notable features include stained glass by several Victorian makers, historic memorials, eight bells and an organ installed in 1973 and rebuilt in 2008.
