About St Garmon's Church
St Garmon's Church stands near the heart of Llanarmon-yn-Iâl in Flintshire, overlooking the River Alyn from its churchyard. It remains an active Church of England parish church within the Diocese of St Asaph and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
The church has origins dating to 1282, with a second nave added around 1450. Extensive rebuilding followed in 1736, when a timber arcade replaced the earlier stone division between the naves. Built chiefly from limestone, with some sandstone and a slate roof, the structure retains its medieval arched and braced roof timbers. Architect John Douglas restored it in 1870, introducing Gothic windows and strengthening the wooden colonnade. Notable fittings include a font dated 1734, a brass chandelier from the fifteenth or early sixteenth century, medieval monuments and Royal Arms from 1740. A western bellcote accommodates two bells.
