About Kirkcaldy Old Kirk
Kirkcaldy Old Kirk is a former parish church on elevated ground near the harbour in Kirkcaldy, Fife. A Category B listed building, it has been owned by the Kirkcaldy Old Kirk Trust since 2011. The church continues to host worship alongside community events, concerts, heritage activities and summer visits.
The site was recorded in 1240, when the kirk was dedicated to Saints Patrick and Bryce, and may have earlier Celtic origins. Its sandstone Norman-style tower, now dated to the 16th century, is 55 feet high and has walls reaching five feet in thickness. The main church was designed by Archibald Elliott and constructed in 1807–08 after its predecessor deteriorated. Notable features include stained glass associated with Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris, later windows by other artists, and an August Gern organ dating from 1885 that remains in recital use. Adam Smith was baptised here in 1723.
