About Church of All Saints

The Church of All Saints, in Fordham, Essex, is the active Anglican parish church for the village and belongs to the Diocese of Chelmsford. Recognised as a Grade I listed building since 7 April 1965, it follows the Church of England’s Conservative Evangelical tradition. The parish has approved resolutions objecting to the ordination of women.

The church was built around 1340 and underwent restoration work in 1861. Roger Walden, who died in 1406, was among Fordham’s former rectors; he held office for a short time as Archbishop of Canterbury and later became Bishop of London. Thomas Twining, a classical scholar connected with the tea-trading family, served here as curate between 1764 and his death in 1804. Fordham also contained a nineteenth-century chapel belonging to the Countess of Huntingdon’s Connexion.
