Carrubbers Christian Centre is an independent evangelical church at 65 High Street, on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. The Category B listed building remains an active place of worship, with meetings at 7:30 pm on Tuesdays and 10:30 am on Sundays. Its work has long combined evangelism and Bible teaching with practical support for local people.
James Gall established the original mission in 1858, when its workers gathered in an earlier meeting house in Carrubbers Close. A visit by American evangelists Dwight L. Moody and Ira D. Sankey helped secure £10,000 for permanent premises in 1883. Edinburgh architect John Armstrong designed the building. Major refurbishment began in 1990, including a new floor at the former balcony level to form a hall seating 350. The basement gained a café, smaller halls and offices, while the upper levels provided additional rooms, offices, a library and a private flat.
