About The Parish Church of All Saints, Old Heathfield

The Parish Church of All Saints, Old Heathfield serves as an Anglican parish church in Heathfield, East Sussex. It is protected at Grade II*, a designation it received in 1966 in recognition of its historic significance.

Most of the present structure was erected during the 1300s on an earlier ecclesiastical site, retaining a tower from the preceding century. A medieval crypt survives within the burial ground. In 1823, a pair of galleries was introduced, creating seating for another 120 people. Further renovation took place in 1861 and 1872, with J. Billing responsible for the latter work. Among the stained glass is a 1957 memorial to former vicar Robert Hunt, who subsequently conducted an early Anglican act of worship in Jamestown, Virginia. A north-aisle window from 1917 remembers Lieutenant-Colonel W. C. C. Ash and incorporates shades linked to the campaign for women’s suffrage.
