About Wyton Methodist Church
Wyton Methodist Church is a Methodist place of worship in the village of Wyton, near Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The church has been protected as a Grade II listed building since 1987.
Built for Wesleyan Methodists in 1841, the chapel originally accommodated 70 people. By 1851, average Sunday attendance across its three services had reached 80. A rear extension was added in 1957. The single-storey building is constructed from colourwashed brick and has a slate-covered hipped roof with a cornice at eaves level. Its three-bay front contains a central entrance beneath a rounded window, flanked by tall windows with rounded heads. Gauged brick arches frame each opening, while the lintel bears the words “WESLEYAN CHAPEL”. Architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner noted the building’s pronounced simplicity.
