About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is a Church of England parish church in Driffield, East Riding of Yorkshire. Dating from the late eleventh century, it remains a place of worship and is protected as a Grade I-listed building.
The church was founded around 1090 to serve a castle community and its neighbouring settlement. Although Norman details survive, much of the present fabric is Perpendicular Gothic, following extensive rebuilding during the fourteenth century. Rounded beach cobbles from Holderness were used in the original structure and remain visible in the tower. The building comprises a nave, chancel, north and south aisles, clerestories and a west tower. Medieval work included roof repairs, new stained glass and the addition of the clerestory. The chancel was reconstructed in 1824, followed by repairs to the nave roof in 1827. Further restoration took place in 1866, while a vestry was added in 1874 and the tower restored in 1893 and 1932.
