About Church of St Cuthbert
The Church of St Cuthbert is the Church of England parish church serving Burton Fleming, in England’s East Riding of Yorkshire. It is protected as a Grade II* listed building, a designation granted in 1966.
Originating in the 12th century, the church retains its chancel arch, nave arcade and elements of the southern entrance from that period. Its west tower was added during the early 1200s, while substantial rebuilding of the nave, chancel and porch took place across the 17th and 18th centuries. This work included removing the nave’s south aisle. The structure is principally stone, with cobble and brick used for repairs, beneath tiled roofs. The four-level tower has large buttresses, a west window of two lights, a clock on its southern face and lancet-shaped bell openings. Inside are a 12th-century circular font and royal arms dated 1724.
