About Prestongrange Parish Church
Prestongrange Parish Church is a Church of Scotland place of worship in Prestonpans, East Lothian. It serves as the town’s parish church and is protected as a Category A listed building. The present congregation was formed in 1981, when Preston and Grange churches joined together.
Founded in 1596, the church dates from the early decades after the Reformation and was financed by its first minister, John Davidson, on land provided by the Hamilton family. Prestonpans became a separate parish in 1606, having previously belonged to Tranent. Substantial alterations in 1774 and 1891 shaped the building as it appears today. The clock tower and sections of adjacent stonework survive from the original structure, while traces of the first western gable can be seen within the roof. The kirkyard includes memorials to former ministers and soldiers associated with the 1745 Battle of Prestonpans.
