About Ukranian Chapel and War Memorial, Hallmuir Prisoner of War Camp, Lockerbie
Ukranian Chapel and War Memorial, Hallmuir Prisoner of War Camp, Lockerbie, is situated near Lockerbie in Dumfries and Galloway. The church received Category B listed status in 2003. More recently, it has served as a collection point for contributions supporting people in Ukraine affected by the Russian invasion launched in February 2022.
In the post-war years, the Hallmuir camp was used to accommodate Ukrainian servicemen formerly attached to the Waffen-SS Galician Division. These residents created the chapel by adapting military accommodation huts already present at the camp. The resulting building reflects both the practical reuse of wartime structures and the experience of the Ukrainian soldiers who lived at Hallmuir following the conflict.
