About Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation
The Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation is in Charminster, Bournemouth, Dorset. Designed in the Gothic Revival style, it is protected at Grade II* in recognition of its architectural and historic significance. The church faces St Alban’s Church on the opposite side of Charminster Road.
Built between 1905 and 1906, the church was the first ecclesiastical design by Giles Gilbert Scott. He worked on the project with assistance from George Frederick Bodley. It was initially established as a chapel serving the Church of the Sacred Heart. Its purpose was to provide a more accessible place of worship for local Catholics who could not make the journey to Sacred Heart in Bournemouth town centre.
