About Church of St James
The Church of St James is an Anglican place of worship in Pokesdown, an area of Bournemouth in Dorset. It belongs to the Church of England and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
The church was completed in 1858 to a design by architect George Edmund Street. Its present form reflects a later phase of enlargement: Charles Marriott Oldrid Scott designed an extension to the nave, with the work carried out during 1930 and 1931. The walls are built from Purbeck stone, laid in courses of rubble masonry. These documented elements place the building within two distinct periods of church construction, with the nineteenth-century structure subsequently expanded in the early twentieth century.
