About St Peter's Church, Satterleigh
St Peter's Church stands in Satterleigh and Warkleigh, Devon. Dating from the fifteenth century, it is protected at Grade I and is no longer used as a parish church. The building is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust, which assumed responsibility for it in March 1996.
Much of the church dates to the fifteenth century, though some fabric may survive from an earlier structure. Its plan is notably simple, with a nave that has no side aisles and a timber bell-cote above. In 1852, the chancel was reconstructed during a broader programme of restoration. These elements record several stages in the building’s development, from possible earlier origins through its principal medieval construction and later Victorian work.
