About West Ogwell Church
West Ogwell Church stands in Ogwell, Devon, England. This Grade I listed building is no longer used as an active parish church and is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. It became redundant in June 1981 and passed into the Trust’s care in October 1982.
The church dates from the medieval period, with the nave and chancel constructed around 1300. A western tower of two stages was added about a century later and is topped by a battlemented parapet. Inside, notable survivals include sedilia from the 13th century and a pulpit dating from the Jacobean era. The enclosed pews, screen beneath the tower and curved communion rails were installed during the late Georgian period.
