About St Mary's Church, North Huish
St Mary’s Church stands in North Huish, Devon. This Grade I listed building is no longer used as a parish church and is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust. It became redundant in March 1993 and passed into the Trust’s care in August 1998.
The church dates largely from the 14th century, although a rector was documented in 1308. Bishop John Grandisson dedicated the reconstructed building in 1336, while the south aisle was added during the 15th century. Extensive restoration took place in the 19th century. The two-stage western tower has corner buttresses, a polygonal stair turret on its northern side and a recessed octagonal spire. Inside are early screens and an octagonal granite font with moulded decoration, dated 1662. Most other fittings are Victorian, including the many-sided wooden pulpit and memorial tablets.
