About Holy Trinity Church, Tansley
Holy Trinity Church, Tansley is an active Church of England parish church in Tansley, near Matlock in Derbyshire. The church shares its parish with All Saints’ Church at Matlock Bank.
Construction began in 1839, when Sir George Harpur Crewe laid the foundation stone during a ceremony attended by local clergy. A bottle containing contemporary coins and the names of subscribers was placed beneath it. Derby architect John Mason designed the building, which the Bishop of Lichfield consecrated on 18 September 1840. Stevens and Robinson, also based in Derby, added the north aisle in 1870. The pipe organ arrived in 1850 through Forster and Andrews. Originally made in 1836 by Flight and Robson as a barrel organ, it had previously stood at All Saints’ Church in South Elkington. John Stacey of Derby enlarged it in 1897.
