About St Beuno’s Ignatian Spirituality Centre
St Beuno’s Ignatian Spirituality Centre is a Jesuit house for retreats and spiritual formation at Tremeirchion, near St Asaph in Denbighshire. Set above the Vale of Clwyd, it looks west towards Snowdonia from the Clwydian Range. It has served its present purpose since 1980 and offers retreats of varying lengths alongside courses in Ignatian spirituality. The property is Grade II* listed and was designated a Welsh Historic Monument in 2002.
Founded to educate Jesuit candidates for priesthood, the college was built in 1847 to designs by Joseph Hansom. Its stone Gothic buildings originally formed four sides around a garden, with carved details and gargoyles outside, broad passageways and plainly furnished rooms within. Growing student numbers led to attic accommodation and a new northern wing around twenty years later. Gerard Manley Hopkins studied here during the 1870s. A substantial refurbishment between 2018 and 2020 modernised the entrance, enlarged meeting spaces and added en-suite facilities.
